De Krans lights up spring and summer with Free Run Chenin Blanc and Wild Ferment Chardonnay!

The De Krans Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2017, spring/summer in a bottle!

Regarded as one of SA’s leading port producers De Krans Wine Cellar on the outskirts of Calitzdorp in the Klein karoo, has also built a reputation for producing a range of unique and superb wines from classical varieties, not to mention its table wines from Portuguese varieties.

With the emphasis on unique yet traditional, consumers can look forward to the latest vintages of the De Krans Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2017 and De Krans Wild Ferment Unwooded Chardonnay 2017.

What makes the De Krans Free-Run Chenin Blanc stand out from traditional chenins is that only free-run juice – approximately two-thirds of the total juice – has been used to make the wine, which results in a fresh, well-rounded product. This Chenin Blanc, a gold medal winner at the 2016 Michelangelo Wine Awards as well as the Champion White Wine at the 2015 Klein Karoo Young Wine Show, shows a tropical freshness on the nose and an abundance of soft fresh tropical fruits, a well-rounded smooth structure and a lingering aftertaste, according to the winemaker, Louis van der Riet. It is perfect on its own, or enjoy this Chenin with fresh snoek, barbeque chicken, or pastas and salads. The wine is available directly from the farm or selected outlets nationwide at only R59 per bottle.

No yeast is added to produce the De Krans Wild Ferment Chardonnay (below) as the fermentation process starts naturally.  Once the fermentation is completed, the wine is kept on its fine lees for a further six months before bottling. Great care goes into the making of this wine, allowing for added complexity in its flavour and taste profiles.

Louis describes the wine as having a beautiful lime yellow colour with a full, elegant nose of citrus and butterscotch. It’s a well-rounded wine with flavours of lime, grapefruit and butterscotch on the palate, as well as a lingering, complex aftertaste and a well- integrated acidity. This wine goes very well with tuna and yellowtail and retails for approximately R59 per bottle.
