Die glanssjef Reuben Riffel het ’n groot aanhanger van Sedgwick’s Original Old Brown geword terwyl hy deur Afrika suid van die Sahara gereis het as deel van die Kaap na Dar es Salaam-ekspedisie met die Land Rover Africa-tydskrifspan.

 

Tydens hul oornagstop by die Hwange Lodge in Zimbabwe het Ruben die span getrakteer op biefstuk met ’n Sedgwick’s-roomsous en sampioene, gekomplementeer met bykosse van geroosterde botterskorsie en vars slaai.

In the Strandveld where you find South Africa’s southernmost vineyards and boutique wine producers, there’s a farmer and winemaker called Dirk Human who does his magic in the cellar of Moddervlei Farm where Black Oystercatcher wines are created. I’ve had the privilege, many years ago, to spend a weekend with him and some other boutique winemakers in that area and … well, shall we say, it’s still fondly remembered!
