‘Baby’ Jeep spied testing ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show

Heavily camouflaged!

The new Nissan Juke-rivalling Jeep, thought to be called Jeepster, has been spied testing, wearing its final production body. It reveals the compact proportions and chunky styling set to be shown in full at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The bosses at Jeep say that it takes inspiration from the iconic Wrangler, suggesting that it will have less of the flowing design of the recently revealed Cherokee, and would be altogether more rugged.

TEST: Nissan ALMERA 1.5 Acenta Auto … like a safari suit, very comfortable but not very fashionable!

Still bland and boring!

Nissan has a big problem in South Africa. While their SUVs and light commercial vehicles are more than holding their own, their passenger vehicles are dull, boring and uninspiring. There is very little, if anything, youthful and exciting about the Tiida or the Livina (maybe the X-GEAR is a slight exception) and even their names threaten to put you to sleep!

Porsche’s new Macan: The sports car of compact SUVs?

Porsche's first compact SUV.

Is it a compact SUV or a sports car? No, it’s the first sports car of compact SUVs. At least that is what Porsche says. We are of course talking about the new Macan.

The Macan is Porsche’s fifth model series and the name is Indonesian for tiger. The company has the capacity to build up to 50,000 units per annum at its plant in Leipzig, Germany and for now there will be three models available: the S, S Diesel and S Turbo. The S will get a 3.0l V6 bi-turbo offering 250kW and 460Nm while the diesel will be the 3.0l TDI from within the VW group but with 190kW and 580Nm — more, in fact, than the engine on which it is based in the Cayenne, thanks to a new integrated air system.

TEST: Subaru Forester 2.0XT AWD … where SUV meets sports sedan!

Excitement now has a new name!

Take a bottle of MCC, shake it well and then loosen the metal strap that holds in the cork. Point away from you because all hell is about to break loose!

If you haven’t got any MCC, go to your nearest Subaru dealer and get in behind the steering wheel of the latest Forester, the 2.0XT AWD in particular. Take it onto the open road, far away from all other traffic, and floor the accelerator. Same thing happens: all hell breaks loose!
