Dit was egter eers met die bekendstelling van die tweede geslag van die Prius in 2005 dat Suid-Afrikaners hul eerste smakie van hibriedtegnologie gekry het.

Toyota 86 transforms into Shooting Brake

Toyota's iconic coupe, the 86, has been transformed into a dramatic 2-door "Shooting Brake" concept. In a similar fashion to the Transformers movie, the "Shooting Brake" evolved from a sports car into a classic coupe characterised by an elongated roof contour line. The prototype, which adds more practical styling to the rear of the 86, was revealed in Sydney by Toyota 86 global Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada.

Volkswagen revives iconic Beetle Dune

Volkswagen has revived the Beetle Baja Bug with the introduction of the Beetle Dune, the first crossover Beetle derivative in over 80 years ago. The Dune's striking design is enhanced by its 18-inch wheels and the wider and lifted body all of which revive the characteristics of the legendary dune buggies.

In South Africa, the Beetle Dune will only be available with 1.4 TSI engine with 110kW power output. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission.
