Slanghoekvallei ’n onontginde juweel propvol glans

Eat, drink, love … you’re in Italy!

The wine regions of Italy.

Our latest overseas venture saw us discovering the northern parts of Italy, from Rome upwards. Our journey of discovery took us from Rome through Umbria and Tuscany in the centre of Italy, to Liguria on the northwest coastline and Veneto in the north east where our trip ended, sadly, in Venice. It was a journey of good food, good wine, good people, good scenery and good fun. In short, it was all about la dolce vita!

Suid-Afrikaanse wynliefhebbers is bederf, baie bederf.

Temecula Valley: A world of wines on the west coast

Wilsons Creek Winery.

A well-known secret lies in the heart of Southern California’s wine region: Temecula Valley Wine Country, says Kateri Wozny. About 85 miles south of Los Angeles and about 60 miles north of San Diego near the Interstate 15 and 215 corridors, sits Temecula. Meaning “where the sun shines through the mist,” Temecula has over 40 wineries and award-winning premium wines from over 28 varietals.

Cycling and pousadas adventure in Alentejo, Portugal: an adventure across a beautiful land

The sights in Portugal are something to behold!

Portugal has been producing some terrific wines lately, so I decided to head there for some bicycling and wine tasting, writes Robert Reimann. Even though the Duoro is home to Portugal's most popular wines, I headed to the Alentejo region to stay in some lovely pousadas I've had my eye on.

Being in Burgundy!

The Chateau de Rully in Burgundy surrounded by vineyards is a sight for sore eyes for sure!

There is nothing like spending time in Burgundy, says Christy Canterbury MW. The villages and countryside are beautiful and timeless. The people are discreet but warm. Burgundy is like comfort food for wine lovers.

Visit Monterey for a day

Monterey is proof that wine turns any place into paradise!

Like much of California’s modern wine industry, Monterey county received a boost from the explosion of growth that began in the 1960s, writes Gregory Dal Piaz from the States. Wine sales were taking off and producers looked for the best locations to grow their grapes. Being a nascent industry at the time, land remained relatively inexpensive. Monterey, whose climate compares favorably to that of parts of Napa, Sonoma and the finest regions of Europe, became a hot bed of activity.

Six villages of Burgundy … and why they should be in your glass

The beautiful countryside of Burgundy in France.

When in uncharted territory, most wine buyers stick to the well-trodden path, writes Christy Canterbury MW. That means there is plenty of room for discovery, even in a fairly small region like Burgundy. A lucky benefit of taking the road less traveled, is that road's lower prices.

Up for adventures in chardonnay and pinot noir? From north to south, here we go.

The Margaret River wine region in Western Australia stuns

Sandalford Wines, another of the Margaret River wine region's wineries.

The state of Western Australia has just 2.3 million inhabitants, or less than 10% of the population of Australia. Needless to say, the whole region is pretty empty, dominated by the endless Outback. Yet, Western Australia is home to one of the best up-and-coming wine regions in the world, the fertile Margaret River.

About three hours’ drive south of the state’s capital, Perth, the Margaret River area produces about 3 percent of Australia's wines, but is responsible for about 20 percent of Australia's “premium market” wines. From its humble beginnings in the late 1960s, over 100 boutique wineries are now nestled here.
